Centriq is gone. What now?

Updated June 2026 · Written by the maker of The Owner's Manual — bias disclosed, comparison honest.

On January 31, 2026, Centriq shut down and deleted user accounts. For nearly a decade it was the app for this job: scan an appliance's nameplate, get the manual, the parts, the recall alerts. If you're here, you probably lost an inventory you spent years building — and you want to know two things: where to go, and how to make sure this never happens to your data again.

The lesson worth keeping: own your data

Centriq users didn't just lose an app — many lost the records themselves, because there was no meaningful way to take them out. Whatever you pick next, the first feature to check isn't AI or scanning. It's export: can you download everything you've entered, in a usable format, whenever you want?

The replacements, compared

What Centriq users actually relied on, across the main candidates (as of June 2026, per each product's published features and pricing):

Honest guidance: if you managed multiple properties or want renovation budgets and insurance documentation, Dib or HomeZada will fit you better than we will — they build for that on purpose. The Owner's Manual is for people who want the reference card: what oil, what filter, what pressure, which manual — answered in two taps, not buried in a PDF.

Moving in (it's deliberately small)

  1. Open the web app — works on any phone or computer, no install needed.
  2. Add your highest-value items first: vehicles, HVAC, fridge. Categories come with the right fields pre-built (oil type offers real viscosities as you type; filters know their part-number formats).
  3. Attach manuals — auto-fetched from make/model, or paste a link.
  4. That's it. No budgets to configure, no property profiles, no setup wizard.
